How do I care for my wig?
When not in use, always store your wig on a mannequin or wig stand to maintain its shape. Frequency of cleaning will depend on your environment, lifestyle and amount of perspiration. Suggested guidelines for cleaning are after 10 to 14 days of wear. To clean and condition your wig, follow the manufacturer's instructions that came with your wig.
Synthetic and Blended Wigs Only shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays and other styling accessories designed specifically for synthetic wigs should be used to take care of synthetic hair or blended (synthetic/human) hair wigs. After shampooing and conditioning, make sure to rinse your wig thoroughly in cool water. Always use a soft towel and carefully blot dry (do not scrub). Allow your wig to dry naturally overnight on a wig stand. Human Hair Wigs Special products should also be used on human hair wigs because the hair in human hair wigs has been processed several times and is vulnerable to damage. Any high quality shampoo formulated for processed hair may be used, however, stclairshair strongly recommends you use the products made especially for wigs to protect your investment. |

Hair loss due to cancer treatment varies according to the treatment and the patient. If hair loss does occur, it usually begins within two weeks of the start of therapy and accelerates one to two months into treatment. Following are the answers to some of the questions we get asked most frequently by our customers.
What can I do to prepare myself for hair loss?
Before treatment begins or at the very start of treatment, buy a wig.
Many first-time wig purchasers want to match their current hair colour to start with, but this is also a chance to add those highlights and give yourself a makeover ie: if you are a blonde you could have some tones in the blonde or if you are dark brown why not have some copper added and so on.
When hair loss begins, you may want to consider cutting your hair short to lessen the shedding. Do not shave or cut your hair shorter than 1" inch to avoid stubble, which can be irritating under a wig or turban.
Another way to make the transition easier is to start having fun with your hair now, before you begin treatment. If you've ever wanted to experiment with a different style and colour, now is the perfect time! Have you always wondered what you would look like as a blond? Go for it!

How should I care for my scalp?
Continue to shampoo and condition your scalp as you would normally do. You may also use a soft pile washcloth to exfoliate. This will encourage good circulation and keep your scalp from feeling tight and dry.
After your shower, apply a small amount of facial moisturizer (not body lotion) to your head. Be sure it is absorbed well before putting on your wig.
Do I need to get a medical wig?
All monofilament wigs have soft caps, are lightweight and well ventilated making them appropriate choices for medical patients. For people with extremely sensitive scalps, 100% hand-tied wigs are the most comfortable because they do not have wefts, therefore there are very few seams to irritate the scalp.
Should I buy more than one wig?
A positive attitude is essential to your healing and well-being, which is why we encourage our clients to have fun with their new hair! Besides, wearing the same wig every day is kind of like wearing the same outfit every day. You may want a second wig to wear while the first wig is being shampooed or drying. Or a second wig may also be just what you need for special occasions or when you just need a little change of pace. While clients often want to match their current hair colour when they purchase their first wig, they almost always want to try something new and different when they buy their second!
